Exploring The World Of Handcrafted Furniture Construction

Hi there! The name is Nicky and I'm here to present the fascinating world of furniture construction to you. Modern furniture comes from a long line of handcrafted items that have recently fallen out of favor. I grew up in a quirky household where we created all of our own furniture by hand. I have fond memories of shaping wood on the lathe for table and couch legs before I could even ride a bike. Today I continue to create furniture using all of the skills I learned from my awesome parents. I would like to share the knowledge I've collected over the years with you to help expand this interesting hobby. My main goal is to see handmade furniture secure its place in the marketplace. I hope you learn all you need to know about techniques, tools and building materials to create signature pieces you'll love for lifetime.

Equipping Your Repair Center: What To Look For In An Industrial Workbench

Industrial workbenches provides the space your staff needs to perform repairs and plan out larger projects. To help your employees be as productive as possible, you want to make sure that these benches are equipped with the right accessories to get the job done. Here are a few features to consider to make your repair shop more effective and productive.

Monitor Arms

Whether your work orders come through on your computer system or your repairs often require research online, having workbenches with monitor arms can be a great benefit. The arms keep the monitors off of the actual workbench, providing more space to perform repairs. The monitor arms can also put screens at the perfect viewing angle so your staff doesn't need to stretch and strain to read important information. If possible, look for a bench with both a monitor arm and a pullout keyboard tray to truly keep the workspace clear for tools and equipment.

Built-In Hutches

A built-in hutch provides abundant storage for each employee's work area. These hutches can include drawers and cabinets or open storage spaces. Look for workbenches that offer a variety of storage options in the hutch, as this provides space for material safety data sheets, work order binders, tools, and parts. The shelves and cabinets should be positioned so they are within arm's reach, as this makes it easier for your staff to grab essential items as repairs are being performed.

Work Lights

Ample lighting is essential for repair work, particularly if your company does repairs on items with small or delicate parts. Some workbenches feature built-in lighting positioned just underneath the hutch, while others have overhead lighting to illuminate the entire workbench. You can also find benches with clamps that can accommodate small lamps, which can be positioned to shine directly on specific parts of the workbench.

Power Strips

Having access to outlets for power tools is essential, and it's likely that your staff may require more than one outlet at each workbench to get daily tasks completed. Remember that you'll need at least two receptacles for each employee's computer, and more outlets will be needed for lights, power tools, and battery chargers. A workbench with a built-in power strip provides easy access to outlets, but be sure you know how many your employees will need on average. This can help you determine which power setup is right for your repair shop.
