Exploring The World Of Handcrafted Furniture Construction

Hi there! The name is Nicky and I'm here to present the fascinating world of furniture construction to you. Modern furniture comes from a long line of handcrafted items that have recently fallen out of favor. I grew up in a quirky household where we created all of our own furniture by hand. I have fond memories of shaping wood on the lathe for table and couch legs before I could even ride a bike. Today I continue to create furniture using all of the skills I learned from my awesome parents. I would like to share the knowledge I've collected over the years with you to help expand this interesting hobby. My main goal is to see handmade furniture secure its place in the marketplace. I hope you learn all you need to know about techniques, tools and building materials to create signature pieces you'll love for lifetime.

Wood Shingles On A Roof: Signs That Replacements Are Necessary & The Cost

Is your roof deck exposed because the wood shingles have shrunk from normal wear and tear? You may want to get the shingles replaced if the damage is too severe, as protecting the roof deck can prevent damage to the interior of your home. Find out what kind of signs you can look for to know if your wood shingles should be replaced, as well as the cost to get it done.

What are Signs that Wood Shingles on a Roof Should be Replaced?

One sign that wood shingles should be replaced is if they have started to curl up. There is nothing you can do to prevent wood shingles from curling because it is a part of the normal wear and tear process. If there are not very many shingles curled up, you may be able to only invest in replacing the damaged ones. However, it is a good idea to replace them all if your roof is old and you want to prevent constant repairs needing to be done.

Cracked wood shingles is another sign that replacements are needed. Cracks are bad because they give rainwater a way to make it to the roof deck. The roof deck is the only thing separating the interior of your home from the environment, so it must stay covered with good shingles.

Wood shingles can also rot with time. You don't want rotten shingles on your roof because the mold from the rot can not only cause the shingles to decay, but also the roof deck. The look of decay can also detract away from the beauty of the exterior of your home and make it look as though you don't take good care of it.

How Much Does it Cost to Replace Wood Shingles on a Roof?

You can expect to pay an estimated price of up to $14,700 for wood shingles to be installed by a professional roofer. However, that price is based on having a ranch style home with a single story, so the price will be higher if you have multiple stories. Keep in mind that you will likely be charged extra for the old shingles to be removed as well.

A roof with wood shingles adds a lot of appeal to a home, but requires timely repairs to protect the roof deck. Contact a roofing specialist, like those at Patriot Construction, to get your shingles inspected and repaired or replaced if necessary!
